I made this banh mi recipe tonight. →
The only modifications I made were less mayo (I didn’t have a lot of mayo in the fridge to be honest), so the sriracha-to-mayo proportion was a little different, and I baked the meatballs in a 450F oven instead of frying them. Everything came out delicious. Tomorrow we’re going to have lobster tacos!

100 Best Things To Eat & Drink in NYC is out →
Sooooooo much within walking distance of my house! Check your ‘hood with this interactive map which is actually a really awesome feature (no lies or company shilling!). Calling shenanigans on tipping the hat to Pat LaFrieda yet again (Team Eat: when I can buy a chef’s signature blends at FreshDirect, their burgers are no longer worth $30), and the fact that Bark is listed twice in the...

Gorgonzola-Cranberry-Walnut Pasta
This was an adventure, to say the least. I could’ve sworn I’ve eaten this very item before, and perhaps had seen a recipe - no, many recipes, in fact - for this on the Internet. So imagine my surprise that no Google search in the world was turning up results for this! This was all super lame because I had already purchased the key ingredients that I was certain I had read in this...

This is what happens when you wake up at 6:30 am
OK, so, today! I’ve just made all these things sheerly because what the fuck do you do if you wake up before football starts? The only time I’m up at 6:30 am is if I’m coming home from something (sorry, Mom, but it’s true). So enjoy: Butternut Squash-Cippolini soup from previous entry My NYC-famous short rib chilli (in oven now) White Bean-Rosemary-Tomato...

Butternut Squash and Cippolini Soup
This is very delicious. Ingredients 1 butternut squash, around 1-1 1/2 lbs, peeled, seeded, and cubed (cubes don’t need to be perfect, just keep them similarly sized) 3 cippolini onions, peeled and quartered 1 1/2 tbsp olive oil 1 clove garlic, minced 1/4 tsp ground cloves 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon 1/2 tsp ground cardamom 1/2 tsp black pepper 1/2 tsp ground ginger 2-3...

Martha Stewart is perfect
Listen, I’ve been desperately trying to find this recipe on her labyrinthian site to post here, to no avail, so I am going to just write it out. It is very easy and super delicious and - yes, there is an “and”! - it is good for you, so just make this sometime. Cod Provencal Ingredients: 4 cod (or tilapia or etc. - you should know the replacements here for white fish) fillets,...

I had no idea “fried onion blossoms” was a trend (Chicagoans? Any explanation here?) but otherwise pretty on point. The communal table is a concept that should be set on fire and drowned and then fed to a whale.

Awesome Potato Soup is Awesome
So I decided it was time to tweak my potato-leek soup recipe a little and stumbled upon Emeril Lagasse’s recipe the other day. It is really good! Except that I changed it around quite a bit, because Emeril’s proportions and ingredients seemed strangely pussified to me: I mean, here is a man who literally screams “BAM!” every time he, like, puts a dash of salt in a dish, and...

It does feature the Bklyn Larder fall menu (want to eat all of these sandwiches), and a simple recipe for tomato soup, so it’s definitely worthwhile to me. But a 300-page* PDF newsletter in my email box? Guys, what? * Okay, it is not 300 pages but nearly.
